men’s 3000m hurdles
Dani Arce (8:23.84) in boss mode. Fifth in Europe, confirming the championship with a long and merciless attack that lasted almost the entire last thousand (the first two were completed in 2:42.85 and 5:31.60). Up to this point, he had competed in the company of the brave Victor Ruiz, who won silver with a score of 8:24.84 (the best result of a season in which he was hampered by injuries). A sweet summer for the man from Burgos (twice ninth place at the World Championships) with signs that he will shine even more at the upcoming Olympics. Following him, the never-ending Sebas Martos (8:27.12) added bronze to his metal collection (he has five golds to his name). A special tribute to Fernando Carro, the national record holder who is absent due to illness and whom we will soon see in La Nucia: if his recovery allows, he will take part in the 3000 meters at the Spanish Autonomous Federation Championships next weekend.
Women’s 5000m
Stopping the howitzer of Marta García, European bronze medalist, national record holder and winner of the last two titles, was mission impossible. She rode comfortably in a group that was losing units until her number was seven, with 1200 to go. After one lap, the Castilian-Leonese team came on the attack, held back only by the young María Forero (Spanish U23 record holder) with Idaira Prieto ten meters behind. At the bell, Marta took off decisively and opened a gap, and Idaira swapped María’s silver for bronze. He crossed the line in 15:38.64, winning his third gold in a row, something that had not happened in 20 years. Idaira, confirming that the 12 and a half laps are her favourite challenge, clocked 15:41.08, while Maria, after a new lesson in self-confidence, clocked 15:45.88.

Ibero-American runner-up Daniela Fra (55.92) undisputedly confirmed the title despite a setback at the last fence and being chased by national record holder Sara Gallego, who has not stopped raising the bar since her return (56.63, MMT). Another big favorite in the penalty area was also Carla Garcia (57.12). Eight finalists broke the one-minute barrier in a test that is experiencing a very exciting moment in our country.
Men’s 400m hurdles
Jesus David Delgado (49.44) won his first national title by defeating Sergio Fernandez, who had eight points (49.77). A very brave race, even until the second turn, in which he knew how to suffer like no other in the last hectometer and which, as a bonus, gave us a new personal best (50.17) of the bronze medalist Javier Lorente (his progress and proximity to two specialty links – one of the great news of the year).
women’s length
Without the participation of world bronze medalist Fatima Diame, the 2023 champion Tessie Ebosele was favored. The girl from Vitoria, last year’s world finalist, showed a series of 6.59, 6.23, 6.11, 6.14, 6.20 and 6.41 (some of them without touching the board). The first jump of the student of Ivan Pedroso gave her the title by just one centimeter from Iraty Mitchellena (the 2022 champion): 6.40, 6.58, 6.44, 6.43, 6.27 and zero in the last attempt, in which she was forced to take risks. Bronze went to Andrea Arilla (6.39).
Women’s Pole Vault
Malen Ruiz de Azua has been Spanish indoor champion four times (most recently this winter), but she had not made her outdoor debut until today. She did so with a flight of 4.35. To her right at the awards ceremony was the 2020 gold medalist and current vice-Miss Ibero-Americana Andrea San José (4.30), and to her left with the same mark was Monica Clemente (winner in 2028).

Three-time champion Jorge Ureña started the day with a season-high 55.33 in the javelin. women’s 1500 m (semi-finals)
Miller began with the bitter aftertaste of losing Marta Perez – sixth at the last European Championships and the best record holder of 2024 – due to some muscle discomfort, which recommended caution until the end of the summer.
