The Miami Marlins trade shortstop Miguel Rojas to Los Angeles Dodgers by California infielder Jacob Amaya, both clubs announced Wednesday night. Rojas, eligible to become a free agent after the 2023 season, returns to the team he began his major league career with in 2014 after an eight-year era with the Marlins.
The 33-year-old, 6-foot-1 veteran slashed .236/.283/.323 with six home runs and 36 RBIs in 140 games with Miami in 2022. However, he posted a 14.3 defensive rating, the highest ever of his career, last season, according to FanGraphs:
The addition of Miguel Elías Rojas gives the Dodgers some infield depth after Trea Turner left in free agency. Left-handed hitter Gavin Lux is another option to be the starting shortstop on Opening Day.

The deal has been agreed. Jacob Carlos Amaya, 24, will return to Miami in exchange. Los Angeles will assume the entire $5MM salary of Rojas. Amaya debuted in Triple A in 2022 and did just fine. Since 2017 he has been in Dodgers branches. He mostly plays shortstop and second base.
