Maroon 5’s Adam Levine congratulated the audience in Afrikaans

Maroon 5 returned to South Africa after almost a decade to headline the Calabash Festival alongside international artists Keane and Ava Max.

During Maroon 5’s performance in Cape Town, lead singer Adam Levine captivated the crowd by addressing them in Afrikaans.

On stage, Levin mentioned that he often compliments his wife Behati Prinsloo in Afrikaans. Behati speaks Afrikaans fluently, having once lived in Cape Town.

So, Levin knows a couple of phrases fromtaal‘, but admits that it is ‘a very difficult language’. He then shares an Afrikaans phrase he learned from his wife while addressing the crowd:

»»“Ji lyk baye mui” (you look very beautiful) – that’s what I tell her. “She told me today (to say)”“Julle lyk baye mui”

(You are all very beautiful).”
