This week, Mia Khalifa published a post on social media in which she expressed rare praise for US President Joe Biden.
On Friday, Biden shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) in which he declared that “no one should be jailed for simply using or possessing marijuana.”
Khalifa, a Lebanese-American media personality and former adult film star, responded to Biden’s post by saying, “I hate it when the a***** I despise eats,” expressing support for Biden’s plan to federally make marijuana a drug of choice. List 3.
Earlier this week, the president announced his administration’s plans to “reclassify marijuana from a Schedule 1 drug to a Schedule 3 drug.”
“This is an important step toward reversing long-standing inequities,” Biden said in a video posted on X. “Today’s announcement builds on the work we’ve already done to forgive a record number of federal offenses for simple marijuana possession… no one should sit in prison only for the use or possession of marijuana, period.”
As of 2024, marijuana has been legalized for recreational use in 24 states, with 38 allowing medical use. In December 2022, the President proposed clemency for all US citizens convicted of simple possession, attempted simple possession or use of marijuana.
Despite legalization in some states, the drug is still classified by the federal government as a Schedule I substance—or drugs defined as having no acceptable medical use or a high potential for abuse—along with other drugs such as heroin, ecstasy, and LSD.
Khalifa has in the past criticized Biden amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas militants. She is an ardent supporter of the Palestinians and has made several social media posts discussing the war in recent months.
In November 2023, she responded to a social media post about Biden celebrating his 81st birthday.
“This old bastard can’t stop the fire,” Khalifa wrote in response.
Shortly after Hamas militants attacked Israel on October 7, Khalifa faced fierce criticism on social media when she called the militant group “freedom fighters.”
“Someone could ask the Palestinian freedom fighters to turn their phones upside down and film horizontally,” Khalifa wrote on X, responding to footage of the October 7 attack.
After days of criticism over his post, Khalifa attempted to clarify his comment in a follow-up statement, which said: “I just want to make it clear that this statement is in no way (an incitement to) spread violence.” I specifically said “freedom fighters” “because Palestinian citizens… fight for freedom every day.”
