After leading the central event of Flag Day in Rosario, President Javier Miley met at the Casa Rosada this afternoon with four governors from different political backgrounds: Osvaldo Jaldo (Tucumán), Gustavo Sáenz (Salta), Raúl Jalil (Catamarca) and Carlos Sadir (Jujuy).
This meeting, which lasted just over 30 minutes, is part of the relaunch of the May Pact announced by the president in the city of Santa Fe, which he attended with almost his entire cabinet of ministers, since the head of the economy was missing, Luis Caputo.
After the meeting, Miley headed back to the bar and greeted a group of people passing by on Rivadavia Avenue. He then headed to the Olivos residence where he will finalize details of his trip to Europe tonight.
The head of state this morning called on former presidents, governors, political officials, members of the Supreme Court, businessmen and union members to join his initiative, already announced in the Legislative Assembly on March 1, and to sign it on March 9. July in Tucumán.
“To achieve that dream of a prosperous and independent Argentina, it is necessary that all of us who share the cause of independence, all of us who understand that Argentina must re-embrace the ideas that made us great, put aside our partisan blinders, let’s get rid of special interests and work together to establish the new economic order that Argentina needs to become a world power again,” he said beneath the flag monument.
“I want to take advantage of this day, in which the Argentine flag is flying in the sky, the approval of the Base Law and the fiscal package already advanced, to call on all political authorities, governors, leaders of the main political parties, former presidents of the nation, members of the Supreme Court, businessmen, workers and of course all Argentine citizens to meet in Tucumán on the night of July 9 Finally, May will sign the treaty and we will finally begin to turn the page on our history.” Miley expressed.
It was in the last phase of his speech that he again called for the signing of the May Agreement, originally scheduled for May 25, but frustrated by the delay in the approval of the Base Law and the Fiscal Agreement. Chief of Staff Guillermo Francos had already suggested that Independence Day and the province of Tucumán could be chosen to fulfill the president’s wish.
Of the four provincial leaders called to the meeting, which was also attended by Franco, Jalil and Zaldo came to power through Peronist lists under the name of Unión por la Patria, but they were among those who immediately adopted measures in their administration that were in harmony with the people of the nation, especially in the fiscal adjustment they implemented.
So are the cases of Sáenz, who renewed his mandate through a provincial force, and of Sadir, Gerardo Morales’s successor as radical governor in Jujuy.
The four governors are from provinces in northwestern Argentina, where investments, especially mining, are expected to surge if the Base Law that includes the Large Foreign Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) is finally approved in the Deputies. There is a session scheduled for next Thursday, June 27, to review the project and to approve or not the amendments made to it in the Senate.
All four arrived at Balcarres 50 in the same vehicle shortly after noon, while the President was still on his flight from Santa Fe, carrying some packages with gifts and none of them wanted to make a statement to the press.
A few minutes later Miley, accompanied by her sister Karina – the secretary general of the presidency – and her chief of staff Francos, entered the Rosada through the esplanade, which overlooks Rivadavia Street.
In the afternoon, around 7 p.m., President Miley plans to travel to Europe where she will receive three awards in Spain, Germany and the Czech Republic.
On Spanish soil, in addition to receiving an honor from the Juan de Mariana Institute, he will also meet the President of the Community of Madrid and the Spanish Popular Party, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
On Saturday he will travel to Germany. In Hamburg he will be honored at the Hayek Society. On Sunday he will travel to Berlin to meet German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz – he will be accompanied by his sister Karina and Chancellor Diana Mondino.
The next day he will be in Prague where Prime Minister Petr Fiala and a group of businessmen are waiting for him. In the afternoon he will receive an award from the Liberal Institute there. On Tuesday Miley will return to Argentina.
