More than 1,000 people are involved in the development of the new Inclusive Code of Ethics

More than a thousand people are involved in the development of Spain’s new Code of Ethics for Total Inclusion.

• The survey, adapted for Easy Reading, collected 1,075 responses, including 218 from people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and 288 from family members.

Thanks to a collective process that lasted a month, Spain’s new Code of Ethics for Total Inclusion will receive the support of more than a thousand people. The questionnaire, adapted for Easy Reading, was distributed by email and on social networks of the Confederation, which unites 950 associations throughout the country. A diverse audience responded to the questions, including 218 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and 288 their family members.

The Fully Inclusive Code of Ethics includes the values, principles and standards that guide all people involved in the inclusion movement that fights for the rights and supports more than 150,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. “We are talking about values, principles and norms that aim to create an organizational culture and help different actors make fair and responsible decisions, always with the goal of improving the quality of life and the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities,” he emphasizes. All this within a relationship that recognizes our interdependence as the only possible space for coexistence and mutual growth.

A COLLABORATIVE, INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE PROCESS

The process of developing the Fully Inclusive Code of Ethics was divided into four stages:

• Analysis of the current code
• Qualitative assessment. For this purpose, 17 interviews were conducted with key actors. There were also 10 group dynamics.
• Quantitative research. A single cognitively accessible questionnaire was used and 1075 people responded to it.
• Development of a new Code of Ethics, which is currently under development.

“The preparation of this Code of Ethics is an inclusive and accessible process in which people with intellectual disabilities actively participate. This reinforces Plena Inclusion’s commitment to ethics and accessibility, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected,” explains Del Rio.
