Nadal is retiring 23 years after starting his professional tennis career, widely regarded as one of the most formidable opponents in the history of the sport. The injuries he has suffered since 2022 forced him to break the news last October.

• And he does it without thinking about goodbye: “I’m not here to retire, I’m here to help the team,” he said in an interview before the tournament.
