This data is very valuable for better understand the nature and evolution of asteroids, which are remnants of the formation of the solar system about 4.6 billion years ago.. They are also important for assessing the potential risk they could pose to Earth if one were to stray from its orbit and head towards us.

2008 OS7 is not the only asteroid that visits us. Hundreds of them pass near our planet every year, some larger, some smaller. Most of them pose no threat, but some can cause damage if they hit the Earth.
