Navalny’s widow fears arrest during funeral of slain Russian opposition leader in jail

Yulia NavalnayaThe widow of Russian rival Alexei Navalny expressed her fears before the European Parliament this Wednesday that police could detain attendees of her husband’s funeral, to be held on Friday in Moscow.

“I don’t know whether (the funeral) will be peaceful or whether the police will arrest those who are there,” Navalnya told the European Parliament’s plenary session.

In his speech, Navalny attacked Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he defined as “the leader of a criminal organization.”

In his opinion it would not be possible ban putin Which do not differ fundamentally from those already adopted.

“You can’t beat him by thinking that he’s a man of principles and morals. He’s not, and Alexey realized that very early on,” said Navalnya, for whom Putin is a “bloodthirsty gangster”

“Alexey was tortured for three years,” the widow said before the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, France. “Putin will have to answer for everything he did to Alexei,” the widow said.

Navalny died in a remote penal colony in the Russian Arctic, and according to his widow Russian authorities “mistreated his body and abused his mother.”

Navalny’s funeral will be held in Moscow on Friday, his team said.
