New Porsche Taycan: improved in almost every aspect

Porsche styling also improved the design and more clearly differentiated the Turbo models. All versions of the Taycan have an even longer list of standard equipment and are equipped with the latest generation of Porsche Driver Experience with an improved display and operating concept.

All variants will receive a host of modifications from the launch of both the Taycan sports sedan and the versatile Taycan Cross Turismo, which is available with an off-road package. In each case, they can have four engine options, with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. The full updated Taycan range will be available from the first half of 2024.

On the road to series production, development engineers and test managers drove more than 3.6 million kilometers worldwide in camouflaged vehicles to continue developing Porsche’s first all-electric sports car. The Stuttgart manufacturer produced approximately 150,000 units of the Taycan. Currently, the most important markets for this model are the US, UK, Germany and China.

We have reached new heights in terms of performance, exceptional dynamics and driving pleasure. At the same time, we have been able to significantly improve efficiency, autonomy, ease of daily use and comfort.”

Best Features

The new Taycan accelerates much faster than its predecessors. Two examples from both ends of the range: the Taycan sports sedan and Taycan Turbo S reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.8 and 2.4 seconds respectively. This makes them 0.6 and 0.4 seconds faster than the previous ones.

With new Push-to-pass function¹ With the Sport Chrono package, up to 70 kW of additional power can be requested, depending on the model, within 10 seconds at the touch of a button. Higher acceleration rates are usually the result of higher system power. For example, the base Taycan produces 60 kW more than before. In the Taycan Turbo S this is an additional 140 kW with Launch Control. This increases the total power of the top model to 952 hp/700 kW.

35% more autonomy compared to its predecessor

Depending on the variant and engine, the WLTP’s autonomy can reach up to 678 kilometers, an increase of 175 kilometers, an increase of 35%. The updated Taycan not only requires fewer charging stops than its predecessor on long journeys, but also charges faster: for example, it can be charged at up to 320 kW on 800-volt direct current (DC) chargers. This is 50 kW more than before. The fast charging window for the new high-performance battery has been significantly expanded. This means that charging power of more than 300 kW can be maintained for periods of up to five minutes and that these high figures can be achieved faster even at low temperatures.

Up to 587 kilometers of real autonomy

Depending on driving style, among other variables, these new features will cut the time it takes to go from 10% to 80% charge by half compared to the previous model. In the first generation Taycan, charging time from 10% to 80% at 15 degrees Celsius is 37 minutes; Under the same conditions, the new Taycan lasts only 18 minutes, despite its larger battery. The total battery capacity of the Performance Plus is now 105 kWh, up from 93 kWh previously.

New active chassis

All updated Taycan models come with adaptive air suspension as standard. The new Porsche Active Ride suspension can be ordered as an option for all-wheel drive versions. This system offers an unprecedented range of operations between comfort and dynamism.

The suspension always keeps the Taycan’s body level, even during hard braking, cornering and acceleration manoeuvres. During smooth driving, the system almost completely absorbs impacts, and in dynamic driving situations, the Porsche Active Ride suspension provides almost perfect traction thanks to the balanced distribution of the load on the wheels. When activated, the suspension can compensate for pitch and roll movements to reduce acceleration forces on the occupants.

Lots of new features to improve efficiency

The simultaneous improvement in performance and efficiency is due to several factors: an improved powertrain with a new motor on the rear axle, which has 80 kW more power than its predecessor in all versions, a modified switching inverter and optimized software, more powerful batteries, revised thermal management, a new generation heat pump and a completely new recovery and traction strategy.

The maximum regenerative power when braking from high speeds has increased by more than 30% – from 290 to 400 kW. All variants now come standard with aerodynamically optimized wheels and low rolling resistance tyres. New 21-inch wheels and tires were developed.

Improved hardware and lighter weight

Although the new Taycan weighs 15 kilograms less.², The plant’s equipment is even more extensive than before. Ambient lighting, ParkAssist with rear view camera, power folding exterior mirrors with ambient lighting, heated front seats, Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), heat pump with new cooling system, wireless charging tray for mobile devices, charging ports on the driver’s side and front. passenger sides, drive mode selector and power steering Plus.

Base versions of the Taycan also feature adaptive air suspension and aluminum door sill guards as standard. In addition to improved equipment, it also has a larger battery but with reduced weight.

Even more attractive design

With updated front and rear styling, including new headlights and taillights, the experts at Style Porsche have further refined the clean, purist design of the Taycan. New front edges and flatter headlights further emphasize the vehicle’s width.

The headlights feature high-definition matrix technology and now display the brand’s signature four-point light signature at night. The Porsche logo on the rear light strip has a three-dimensional glass shape. For the first time, a lighted version with greeting and farewell animation is available.

Among other details, the Turbonite color makes the Turbo and Turbo S models stand out from other versions, both outside and inside.

The instrument panel, central display and additional passenger display have an optimized user interface with additional functions. A steering wheel-mounted drive mode switch is now standard. For Taycan models equipped with the Sport Chrono package and the Performance Battery Plus, there is an additional button for the push-to-pass function.

The new control lever, located on the left behind the steering wheel, makes operating the driver assistance systems even more intuitive. Apple CarPlay is seamlessly integrated into the car’s displays and functions. The new In-Car Video feature allows you to stream live video to the center and passenger screens.
