In updating sessions on a given pathology, the work of a monographic consultation on a given pathology is highlighted to unify all cases.

The University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, center of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, held yesterday, February 22, the 2nd updated conference on systemic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, organized by the Rheumatology Service and dedicated: this year to systemic vasculitis and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach. It will highlight the importance of a monographic consultation to bring together all cases involving different services.

Systemic vasculitis is a disease characterized by inflammation of blood vessels, whether arteries, veins or capillaries, which can vary in size and can affect any organ or tissue in the body. In the long term, this can lead to vessel occlusion or even rupture.

In the hospital complex, a multidisciplinary approach to these pathologies is carried out between the services of rheumatology, ophthalmology, pulmonology, neurology, pathological anatomy and nephrology.

These sessions aim to make systemic inflammatory and autoimmune pathologies visible. .

The rheumatology service aims to focus on a group of pathologies that have low incidence/prevalence but high morbidity/mortality.

Adequate diagnostic guidance is the key to successful therapeutic treatment. In this case, since these are pathologies that often present with very nonspecific symptoms, their early recognition and approach determine their prognosis.

Systemic vasculitis

Vasculitis is considered a minority disease because it affects only five people in ten thousand. Although the most common in adult patients is large cell arteritis, which is an inflammation of the layer lining the arteries, there are many more pathologies that affect a small portion of the population.

Among them are Kawasaki disease, which usually causes inflammation of the coronary arteries that supply the heart with oxygenated blood, or granulomatosis with polyangiitis, which causes inflammation of the vessels of the nose, sinuses, throat, lungs and kidneys.
