Night of the comet and the Milky Way in Tenerife

In the La Vanguardia Reader Photos section, I share these two photos of Comet C/2023 A3 (Zuchinshan-ATLAS): one with the Milky Way and the other with a shower of shooting stars.

I took these pictures last weekend in Isanha, Tenerife. The height of Izanya is 2000 meters. This location is actually home to the Atmospheric Research Center. I used a Canon 5D.

In October of this year, this comet reached its maximum brightness of 2 magnitude and could be observed with the naked eye from around the world. The closest approach to Earth occurred on October 12.

C/2023 A3 (Tsutingshan-ATLAS) is an Oort Cloud comet discovered by the Purple Mountain Observatory on January 9, 2023 and independently discovered by South Africa on February 22, 2023 by the ATLAS telescope (Tsutingshan-ATLAS of Last Alert of Terrestrial). Asteroid impact).

Comet C/2023 A3 (Tzuchinshan-ATLAS), which is not approaching the giant planets of the Solar System, has a retrograde orbit with an inclination of 139°.

For its part, the Milky Way is a spiral galaxy in which the solar system and, in turn, the Earth are located. The name comes from Roman mythology and means “milk road” in Latin. And, according to Greek mythology, this is milk spilled from the breast of the goddess Hera.
