Due to the Irish star’s busy schedule, she did not have time to star in Greta Gerwig’s production.
Hey Saoirse, do you want to go for a ride? No, unfortunately, no. According to the 28-year-old actor, Saoirse Ronan will not be making a guest appearance in the Barbie movie after all.
Earlier this year, there were rumors that Ronan would be joining the cast of the comedy film in a smaller role, expected to appear as another version of the titular Mattel toy (played by Margot Robbie). The film comes from director Greta Gerwig, with whom she worked on Little Women and Lady Bird, so the rumors seemed well founded.
And it turns out that they were true, but everything did not go according to plan. Ronan told PEOPLE she was “gutted” that she wouldn’t be able to be in the film: “I had to do a cameo because I lived in London and they (filmed) there. There was a whole character that I was going to play. play – another Barbie. I was upset because I couldn’t do it.”
But with Barbie’s release date set for July 2023, she’s quietly confident she could still make a last-minute cameo – if there’s any more footage in London.
Just in case, she wrote to Robbie and Gerwig: “I texted Margot and Greta and said, ‘If you’re taking any pictures, maybe I can just walk through the background?’
Saoirse Ronan missed Barbie because she was filming the upcoming drama Overtake, which was filmed in Scotland. The film, directed by Nora Fingscheidt (Unforgivable), is based on the book of the same name by Amy Liptrot.
Pop star Dua Lipa was rumored to have joined the cast around the same time Ronan was set to star in Barbie. However, this still remains unconfirmed.
Either way, the production features a ton of talent, including Ryan Gosling as Ken, Will Ferrell as a toy company CEO, as well as America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma McKee, Alexandra Shipp, Hari. Nef, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ritu Arya, Rhea Perlman, Ariana Greenblatt, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Cain, Jamie Demetriou, Emerald Fennell, Connor Swindells and Michael Cera.
Wow! Barbie will need a bigger beach house for all this talent.
