One tourist was killed and two were missing after a cave collapsed on the Breiðamerkurjokull glacier in Iceland’s southeast on Sunday, authorities in the Nordic country said today.
About 25 tourists were visiting the site at the time of the accident, according to public television, in which one man, whose nationality was not disclosed, died immediately and another was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Reykjavik, where he is in stable condition. Ruv

Icelandic police reported that several helicopters and a hundred people took part in rescue efforts, which were temporarily suspended last night due to difficult conditions. Early in the morning, rescuers resumed the search for the missing tourists, although emergency services report that conditions at the top of the glacier are very complicated.
The Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier is part of the Vatnajökull National Park, which includes the glacier of the same name – one of the largest in Europe – and is one of the most touristic areas of this volcanic island in the North Atlantic.
