Oscar nominations take place Tuesday morning. Expect a big day for Oppenheimer, Barbie.

NEW YORK – Tomorrow is the Oscar nominations, which means it’s time for the year’s best films and performers to find out if they’re headed to the Oscars or if they’re just Kenaf.

Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. EST at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California, by Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid. They will be broadcast live on Oscars.com, Oscars.org and the academy’s social media channels, as well as live on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“Oppenheimer,” “Barbie” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” are expected to be the most dominant forces on Tuesday, each poised to score double-digit nominations. “Poor things” can also have ten or more knots. Voters from a record 93 countries cast ballots this year, according to the academy. And several international films, including “Anatomy of a Fall” and “Zone of Interest,” could also make up the best picture of the 10 films.

Christopher Nolan’s three-hour opus Oppenheimer is a favorite for best picture, best director and numerous other awards. Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt are expected to take on acting roles, and the film’s craftsmanship should be rewarded handsomely in the technical categories. Although Nolan is considered a big-budget auteur of his time, he never won an Academy Award and none of his films won Best Picture. This could be his year.

Oscar season has reunited “Oppenheimer” with its summer box office partner “Barbie.” Greta Gerwig’s feminist blockbuster, undoubtedly the biggest hit of the year with ticket sales of more than $1.4 billion, shouldn’t be far behind “Oppenheimer.” It should win nominations for best picture, best director, acting for Ryan Gosling and possibly Margot Robbie, and probably two best song nominees in “What I Was Made For” and “I’m Just Ken.” Although Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s script was touted as original, the Academy classified it as an adapted film.

The Academy’s best picture can duplicate 10 films nominated by the Producers Guild: Oppenheimer, Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon, Poor People, The Leftovers, Maestro, American Fantasy, Anatomy of a Fall, The Past life” and “Zone of interest”.

If the Oscars’ top category seems closed, there’s plenty of wiggle room in many of the other categories. In the competition for the title of best actor, several worthy candidates are sure to be rejected. Murphy, Paul Giamatti (“The Leftovers”), Jeffrey Wright (“American Fantasy”) and Bradley Cooper (“Maestro”) are the narrow favorites, but that leaves one spot for Leonardo DiCaprio (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Colman Domingo (“Killers of the Flower Moon”). Rustin”) and Andrew Scott (“We Are All Strangers”).

Lily Gladstone is expected to become the first Native American to be nominated for best actress for her role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Her toughest competition is likely Emma Stone, whose performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor People is expected to earn her a fourth Oscar nomination. Also in the cast: Carey Mulligan (Maestro), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Annette Bening (Nyad).

One of the biggest locks of the morning belongs to Da’Vine Joy Randolph. The Remains co-star is considered the clear favorite among supporting actresses. She could be joined by some combination of Blunt, Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Jodie Foster (Nyad), Julianne Moore (May-December) or Penelope Cruz (Ferrari).

One of Barbenheimer’s biggest battles comes in the supporting cast race. There, Downey Jr. and Gosling are likely to go head-to-head, while other nominees could include Robert De Niro (Killers of the Flower Moon), Willem Dafoe (Bad Boys), Mark Ruffalo (Bad Boys) and Charles Melton (“May December”).

Two releases from streaming companies—Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Netflix’s Maestro—were included in the list of best pictures. But the category should primarily feature box office hits “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” as well as independent films from A24 (“Zone of Interest,” “Past Lives”) and Neon (“Anatomy of a Fall”).

Historically, blockbusters have helped boost Oscar ratings. While awards show congestion (a fallout from last year’s walkouts) could wreak havoc on the Academy Awards, Barbenheimer’s presence could help boost the March 10 telecast on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel returns as host and the ceremony moves up an hour to 7:00 pm ET.
