Overtake, starring Saoirse Ronan, will open the Edinburgh International Film Festival

Ronan, who also co-produced the film, will attend this year’s EIFF, which runs from August 15 to 21, along with Fingscheidt, Liptrot and the film’s producers Sarah Brocklehurst and Dominic Norris.

Outran was developed and produced by Brock Media’s Brocklehurst, Arcade Pictures’ Norris, Ronan and Jack Lowden, with support from BBC Film and Screen Scotland.

Executive Producers Outran are Protagonist Pictures, BBC Film, Screen Scotland and MBK Productions. Protagonist Pictures oversees worldwide sales for the film, while CAA Media Finance is also selling the film’s North American rights. The film was sold to Filmcoopi and Cineworx in Switzerland, Cinéart in Benelux and Stage 6 Films in all other international territories excluding North America.

The film had its world premiere on January 19, 2024 at the Sundance Film Festival. It was also shown at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in the Panorama section in February 2024.

The Guardian’s Adrian Horton called it a “touching and sensitive adaptation” that “avoided many of the clichés of cinematic memoir adaptations” and particularly praised Ronan’s “stunning performance”.

Meanwhile, David Rooney from Hollywood Reporter wrote: “Fingscheidt’s third narrative part continues her visceral exploration of the wounded female psyche” and adds that Ronan “goes through physical and emotional trials” in an “emotionally charged performance.”

Outran, starring Saoirse Ronan, will be released by StudioCanal in the UK and Ireland on 27 September.
