Xbox CEO Phil Spencer once again said that the company is not ruling out any Xbox games as potential candidates for crossover to competing platforms.
A Microsoft executive told Bloomberg that “I don’t see any red lines in our catalog that say ‘you shouldn’t do this,'” adding, however, that it was too early to talk about Microsoft’s plans for Halo, a franchise that recently announced it would move on the cross-platform Unreal Engine from Epic.
Last year, Microsoft tested the third-party business by publishing four games on Sony and Nintendo platforms. This was the case with Pentiment and Grounded, which will be released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Switch, as well as Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush, released for PlayStation 5. They also announced, to the surprise of the company’s fans. , that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will release on PlayStation 5 in March 2025, just three months after launching on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
In the interview, Spencer also admitted that he still wants to release some kind of Xbox laptop and that Microsoft is in fact currently working on prototypes and exploring the market. If this becomes a reality, it will take several more years in any case.
Finally, Spencer assured that “we definitely want to be in the market” and acquire other companies after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Purchases, however, will not be that large, but nothing is ruled out.
In fact, the North American manager’s goal is to add more “geographic diversity” to Microsoft’s studios, with teams in Asia, for example.
Finally, Spencer emphasized that “the Xbox business has never been in better shape. The business is currently running and I think that means a healthier future for the hardware and games we create.”
