Why is Labor Day celebrated?
Labor Day, which is celebrated every year on May 1, is an anniversary that remembers the hard work and struggle achieved by workers and the labor movement. In 1989, an international federation of socialist groups and unions established May 1 as Employees’ Assistance Day in honor of the Haymarket Riot (1886) in Chicago. After several years, the President of the United States, Grover Cleveland, was very upset with this initiative, so he signed a law to set Labor Day, which is the official date of the United States, on the first Monday of September in various states. It was celebrated since.
