PlayStation names Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino as its new CEOs

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced Jim Ryan’s successors as CEO of the company.

And yes, we say plural, because there will be two of them: Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino.

Hulst, who until now headed PlayStation Studios (after leading Guerrilla Games), will become CEO of the Studio Business Group, responsible for all of Sony’s own studios, as well as the development of the Japanese company’s IPs in other media, such as films or TV.

Nishino, in turn, will be CEO of the Platform Business Group, responsible for hardware (consoles and accessories), technology, PlayStation Network and third-party relations. The Japanese was until now senior vice president of the Platform Experiences division, after holding various positions at Sony Network Corporation, Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Interactive Entertainment since 2006.

Both will report directly to Hiroki Totoki, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment and interim CEO following Jim Ryan’s departure at the end of March.

Totoki explained that “Sony Interactive Entertainment is a dynamic and growing company that delivers incredible entertainment experiences through the intersection of content and technology. These two leaders will have clear responsibilities and lead strategic direction to ensure we remain focused on deepening our commitment to current PlayStation users and expanding the experience to new audiences.

Hulst said: “I’m thrilled to lead the studio’s business team and continue to drive success with PlayStation 5 as we prepare for the future. The video game industry is one of the largest entertainment industries in the world, and it has been built on the foundation of the marriage of content and technology.”

Nishino concluded by stating that “we will continue to connect players and creators through first-class products, services and technology. We always strive to develop our community through innovation in all areas.”
