Niantic has announced that Gigantamax Pokémon will be coming to Pokémon Go later this month. This mechanic originally debuted in 2019’s Pokémon Sword and Shield.
The studio behind the popular mobile game has been showing signs for quite some time that it will soon include this mechanic in the game, but the final release date is October 26 next year.
Gigantamax Pokémon are giant versions of their base Pokémon that have different designs and abilities. Gigantamax Pokémon can only transform once per battle, so there is a specific strategy for using them. In Pokémon Go, these Pokémon will appear during limited events. Three evolutions of the first generation starters have been confirmed: Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard.
It should be noted that Gigantamax is a different mechanic (though it may seem a bit similar) to Dynamax, which was added to Pokémon Go last September.
