Primary care pediatricians believe it is necessary to improve influenza vaccination coverage

Dr. Pedro Gorrotxategui, President of AEPap, emphasizes the need for pediatricians to inform parents about the importance of vaccinating children against the flu. Although society typically associates the vaccine with protecting older people, Dr. Ignacio Domingo, coordinator of the AEPap vaccine group, clarifies that children are also at significant risk. In fact, young children are hospitalized for influenza at the same rates as children over 60 years of age.

Although the flu is more dangerous for older people, Children may develop serious complicationssuch as pneumonia, even without risk factors. Intranasal vaccines

The intramuscular vaccine is the only option for children aged six months to two years and for children aged two to five years who cannot receive the intranasal vaccine, such as children who are immunocompromised.
