Chip manufacturer Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) on Monday unveiled its latest SoC (system on a chip) for high-end smartphones. Snapdragon 8 Elitewhich is equipped with a new Oryon processor and improved artificial intelligence capabilities.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite replaces the Kryo processors previously used in Qualcomm mobile chipsets.
Dubbed a second-generation chipset by Qualcomm, the Oryon processor includes two main cores, six performance cores, an X80 5G modem RF chip, and an Adreno GPU with a new sliced architecture.
Chris Patricksenior vice president of mobile phones at Qualcomm, said the updated hardware will provide better PC-level performance for smartphones.
Patrick said the new Oryon-powered Snapdragon chipset will provide a better AI experience, “delivering personalized, multi-modal generative AI directly on the device, providing speech, context and image understanding to improve everything from productivity to creativity.”
The Snapdragon 8 Elite also features an improved Hexagon NPU that powers on-device multi-modal AI assistants that can handle both text input and visuals.
It also supports an in-device AI-powered video eraser to remove distractions from video clips. Brands like Asus, Honor, OnePlus, Oppo And Xiaomi release devices with the new chipset in the coming weeks.

This development follows an analyst’s forecast that Qualcomm intends to increase shipments Snapdragon 8 4th generation
at the end of 2024.The company’s share price has already taken into account the negative impact Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is developing its own 5G chips, analysts say.
The chipmaker will benefit from better-than-expected performance in the fourth quarter of 2024 and favorable trends in 2025, the company said. Ming-Chi Kuo.
In early September, it was reported that Qualcomm had contacted Intel Company (NASDAQ:INTC) for a possible acquisition that, if successful, could significantly strengthen its position in the market.
However, according to Benchmark analyst, Cody Acree“Qualcomm’s eventual acquisition of Intel is logically unlikely.”
