movie file); audiences sit watching his upcoming film Sacrifice will hold their breath in anticipation of an equally bold moment. The film is a modern riff on the story of Joan of Arc, incorporating a fantasy tale of quests, class warfare and hostage situations. Anya Taylor-Joy
Taylor-Joy plays (who else) Joan, a zealous soul driven by a volcanic prophecy that only she can hear, who is on a mission to save the world from a fiery reckoning. Along with her army of mystical disciples, she takes over a glamorous charity gala and takes with her three hosts: Mike Tyler (Evans), a beleaguered movie star in desperate need of redemption; Bracken (Kassel), the richest man in the world; and Katie (Ambika Mod), who were simply unlucky. They are forced to embark on a journey through forest and fire until Mike is faced with the defining question: What would he sacrifice for humanity?
Gavras co-wrote the script with Will Arberywriter and co-producer Continuity. After Athena quickly moved to Netflix after bowing in Venice, Sacrifice was mounted as an independent production officially credited to Greece and the UK, making it the director’s first feature film in which France is not the official country of production. Robert Valak, Jacob Perlin and Gavras produces the international film and content group Iconoclast along with Giorgos Karnavas for Heretics and Klaudia Smieja-RosvorowskaMedia mid-March. CAA Media Finance and Rocket Science are handling sales worldwide.
The project is also co-financed by Film4, Gucci, the Onassis Foundation and the Athens Festival. Solent Film provides production services in Bulgaria.
