Rudy Fernandez bids farewell to Spain

Rudy Fernandez played on tuesday in madrid his last game as a professional on Spanish soil, international friendly match against Puerto Rico, which ended in a 107–84 victory, after which they received a tribute to the community of the WiZink Center, the same one who already acknowledged his career in the last home game with his club Real Madrid.

“I am very grateful for everything I have experienced over the years. and that I have time to live. Let’s enjoy it, these are the Games and I’m lucky to be living for the sixth year. Since my career is ending soon, I want to make the most of it,” the man from Palma explained.

“I remain with the love of the people. I have always tried to represent this shirt in the best possible way. Thanks to all the people who supported me to get to this point: the federation, my teammates and my family. “I am proud to represent my country and I still have it,” he added.

And he also had words for the city where he grew up professionally and personally: “I am very happy to be back home. For many years I played for WiZink, for Real Madrid and almost every year I played in many friendly matches here in Madrid. I feel at home, Madrid is part of my life, WiZink is almost my home and I am grateful to everyone for their support, both when I was playing for Real Madrid and today.”

Rudy will compete in his sixth Olympic Games in Paris. the finishing touch to his career: “We have to go with humility, with difficulty. We know we have the toughest group in the competition, but we are ambitious and want to compete. We are going to give everything for this. The shirt, as we always do, hopefully it will give us the opportunity to play in Paris.”

Of course, he warns that one must be careful in the Gallic lands: “You have to go gradually and not have these golden expectations.. We want to go game by game, knowing that this is a very difficult group.
