This Tuesday (10/29/2024) Russia conducted a test with nuclear strategic deterrent forces under the supervision of leader Vladimir Putin, who recently once again mentioned the possibility of using these weapons in the conflict with Ukraine . The operation included the launch of intercontinental ballistic and cruise missiles from both land, air and sea.
The regime’s Defense Minister Andrei Belousov reported to “Comrade Supreme Commander” Putin about the fulfillment of the launch mission of “a major nuclear strike in response to an enemy nuclear attack.” Strategic Forces launched the Yars missile from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome to the Kura Range on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East, covering a distance of about 6,000 kilometers.
In addition, intercontinental missiles Bulawayo and Sineva were launched from the nuclear submarines Knyaz Oleg in the Sea of Okhotsk and Novomoskovsk in the Barents Sea. TU-95MS strategic bombers also launch cruise missiles. “The planned missions within the framework of the maneuvers of the Strategic Deterrent Forces were fully accomplished. All missiles reached their targets,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Putin had said earlier in the day that the use of nuclear weapons was “an extraordinary measure” for Moscow. However, “given the increasing geopolitical tensions and the emergence of new threats and new external risks, it is important to always be ready to use modern strategic forces,” he stressed.
The Moscow leader stressed that the nuclear triad – intercontinental missiles, nuclear submarines and strategic aviation – is “a reliable guarantor of the sovereignty and security of our country, allowing us to fulfill the tasks of strategic deterrence.” However, he assured that, although Russia intends to strengthen its nuclear forces, it does not intend to engage in a “new weapons war.”
Recently, Putin announced amendments to the current nuclear doctrine after the West considered allowing Ukraine to use long-range weapons against targets on Russian territory.
