San Andreas responded with humiliation that still stings 20 years later.

There was never any doubt that the king of sandboxes – GTA. Rockstar’s saga has set the pace with every new game that comes out, and the current competition is virtually nil, but it had a few rivals in the 2000s. Among them, the franchise stood out true crime which, with two titles, offered an alternative to Take-Two’s open worlds.

The first of these, True Crime: Streets of LA, was released back in 2003 and gave us the opportunity, led by detective Nick Kang, to tour a virtual version of the Californian city. Among all the signs and advertisements that we were able to find, the following one particularly stood out.

WITH the letter J replaces the classic letter R in the Rockstar logo. and by changing the color of their star from yellow to pink, the word “Jock-straps” (colloquially translated as “Look at what they’re wearing!”) left no room for doubt. Luxoflux, the creators of the video game, wanted to play a mischievous joke on their main competitors by joking that the company actually makes thongs for men. However, the joke did not go unanswered.

A year later, with the release of GTA: San Andreas, Rockstar used its brilliant satire and mockery to create an absolutely brutal response. If you walk the streets of Los Santos, you’ll probably come across a billboard like this.

“Get rid of old junk, fast! True crime, dumpsters“, the ad says, leaving no room for interpretation. Rockstar made a very strong joke and noted that True Crime: The Streets of Los Angeles It was worth nothing better than collecting trash from his giant virtual map. It seems clear who the winner is in this dialectical struggle, since Activision’s work fell short of the bitumen with this answer. Of course, today this type of pique is no longer distilled.
