Outrun follows a young woman named Rhona who returns home to the Orkney Islands in Scotland after recently leaving rehab for alcoholism.

The film, which also stars Game of Thrones actor Stephen Dillane, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

It comes after the Little Women star revealed the immense pride she takes in calling herself an Irish actress and paid tribute to the “brave” women who came before her.

Saoirse, who was born in New York to wealthy parents, admitted her roots are “an incredible lineage” and said she “doesn’t take them for granted.”

Appearing on the cover of the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, Saoirse explained how important she is to her heritage.

She explained: “Think of Sinead (O’Connor), think of Sharon (Horgan), think of everyone who was around in the seventies, eighties and nineties who just didn’t give a damn and stepped away from the mold. .

“All the women have had to overcome a lot, but I think in a country like Ireland where we had such power over us in every way – physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially – it’s incredibly brave.

“What an incredible supply that has appeared. I don’t take it for granted at all.”

“If you have something that I always had from my mother, you carry it with you your whole life.”

Saoirse’s next film will be Blitz, a period drama directed by Steve McQueen and starring Leigh Gill and Harris Dickinson.
