After a great season on the ATP Tour, the Nitto ATP Finals have arrived. The top eight qualified players will compete in the final tournament of the year in Turin on Sunday.
Italian world number one Jannik Sinner and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz are aiming to win the title for the first time, while former champions such as Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev will be expecting strong performances in northern Italy. Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Mignaur and Andrey Rublev complete the individual lineup.
In doubles, eight pairs will take to the court in Italy, where Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic will start as the main seeds. Ahead of the tournament, ATPTour.com looks at five key things to watch at Inalpi Arena.
1) Sinner as a local idol: Jannik Sinner has had a stellar season on the ATP Tour, rising to number one in the PIF ATP Rankings and winning Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and US Open. With a record of 65-6 this year, the Italian, a leader with seven trophies in 2024, will be looking to expand his collection in Turin. Last season, Yannick reached the final, losing to Novak Djokovic.
2) Ilie Nastase Group: Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur accompany Sinner in Ilie Nastase’s group. Medvedev, the 2020 champion, will be taking part in the tournament for the sixth time in a row, while Fritz managed to reach the semi-finals in 2022. Australian De Minaur, winner of two titles this year, will make his debut at the tournament.
3) John Newcombe Band: Two-time champion Alexander Zverev leads John Newcombe’s group along with Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev. The German arrives in Italy after winning the Rolex Paris Masters, while Alcaraz will look to improve on the semi-final result achieved in Turin last season. Alcaraz and Zverev continued their strong rivalry in 2024, with the Spaniard dominating the Lexus ATP Head2Head 2-1 this year. Both are equal (5-5) in full balance. Ruud and Rublev won two trophies in 2024.
4) Doubles stars: Top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic lead the way and will compete in Bob Bryan’s group along with Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, and Kevin Kravitz and Tim Puetz. Second favorites Marcel Granollers and Horacio Ceballos will start in Mike Bryan’s group along with Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic, Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson, and Harry Heliovaara and Henry Patten.
Koolhof (2020), Mektic (2020) and Granollers (2012) are former doubles champions of the tournament.
5) Turin hosts for the fourth year: Inalpi Arena will host the season finale for the fourth year in a row. The 54th Nitto ATP Finals will feature the top eight players divided into two groups, with the top two in each group advancing to the semi-finals. Large crowds are expected at the Inalpi Arena, where the players have been training since Monday.
