Secret Service chief takes responsibility for attack on Trump!

NEW YORK (EFE) – United States Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle took responsibility for Saturday’s attack against Donald Trump in an interview on ABC channel on Monday, but confirmed that she will remain in her position.

Cheatle described as “unacceptable” the assassination attempt on the former president and already Republican candidate for the White House at a rally in Pennsylvania, in which a member of the public died, and declared that it was his job to investigate what happened and ensure that it is not repeated.

“I take responsibility. I’m the director of the Secret Service and I have to make sure that we investigate and that we provide resources to our personnel when needed,” Cheatley said. However, she indicated she is not going to resign as most critics demand.

Secret Service will participate in investigation of Trump assassination attempt

Cheatley said in a statement Monday that the Secret Service is working with federal, state and local agencies in investigating the attack and confirmed it would “fully participate” in the independent inquiry announced by President Joe Biden.

When asked about the investigation, he said local officers were in charge of securing the building outside the security perimeter, from whose rooftop the suspect, Thomas Crooks, was shot and killed, and confirmed that local police were inside the building while he was on the rooftop.

Similarly, in regard to the possible identification of Crooks as a suspect prior to the shooting of the candidate, he indicated that “looking for that individual, finding him, identifying him, and ultimately neutralizing him all happened in a very, very short period of time, and that makes it a lot more difficult.”

Cheatle, who has faced major scrutiny and is called to testify before Congress on July 22, said in his statement that he is “confident in the Secret Service’s reinforced security plan” for the Republican National Committee, which begins today in Milwaukee.

Likewise, he said the Secret Service had reinforced the former president’s bodyguards in June and that, after Saturday’s attack, it has implemented “changes” to guarantee his security during the convention, in which his candidacy was made official today, and in the rest of the bell.
