Jannik Sinner refuses to look back and remains in machine tennis and winning mode, and this Thursday he added his third win in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 over Daniil Medvedev to remain top of the group stage. for the second year in a row at the Nitto ATP Finals.

The top seed easily defeated the 2020 champion to advance to the semi-finals with a perfect 3-0 record. Sinner will be joined in the semi-finals by Taylor Fritz, who scored a vital victory over Alex de Minaur. Fritz will compete in the semi-finals of the season finale for the second time, having reached the knockout stage on his debut in 2022.

Medvedev tied three games in a row in the second set, allowing him to harbor hopes of a comeback, but they were short-lived as Sinner accelerated again to claim victory in the 73rd minute.

Sinner, who is bidding to join Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only men to win the Australian Open, US Open and Nitto ATP Finals in the same year, will continue his campaign against group runner-up John Newcombe. Although Alexander Zverev currently tops the group with Casper Ruud in second, everything remains to be decided in Friday’s matches. Zverev will face Carlos Alcaraz and Ruud will face Rublev.

Sinner thus confirmed his place in the semi-finals and was finally able to lead his Lexus ATP HeadToHead with Medvedev for the first time in his career, having lost his first six fights. They lost the rivalry 0-6 in March 2023, left it 5-6 in March this year and only tied it (7-7) in October by winning the ATP Masters 1000 quarter-finals in Shanghai. Now, finally, he has the upper hand – 8-7.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old is 24-1 in his last five tournaments. The Italian also has 48 wins on hard courts this season from 51 games played on hard courts.
