Spacetop G1, characteristics, price and technical data sheet

  • The device has a Snapdragon QCS8550 chip with 48 TOPS (INT8) for artificial intelligence.

  • Works with the SpaceOS operating system, designed for productive work on the Internet.

Sightful, a company founded by former Magic Leap employees, has just unveiled a rather interesting product: a laptop with augmented reality glasses designed for “spatial computing.” We are talking about Space Summit G1a team that abandons traditional displays and focuses on virtual experiences.

One of the most notable aspects of this offering is the ability to work in huge workspaces from anywhere in the world. Its creators claim that we will be able to enjoy a virtual screen size of up to 100 inches instead of being limited to the inches that traditional laptops can offer us, for example, 13 inches.

Screenless laptop designed for spatial computing

Sightful isn’t the first company to talk about spatial computing. This term has become widespread for many years

although it has gained more fame since the launch of Apple Vision Pro. Although its scope is not clearly defined, we could define it as a medium not limited to screens.

Spacetop G1 points in this direction. The idea is that we work with several windows around us. The desktop is in front of us, superimposed on the real physical world. One of the likely use cases for Sightful is flying on an airplane, where space for working with a computer is limited.

They also point out that this device, which does not have a screen, does not allow anyone in the room to see what we are doing. As we can see in the images, glasses are stored where the screen should be on a traditional laptop. On the back panel we see the keyboard and trackpad.

Focusing on the features and specifications, the Spacetop G1 is different from regular laptops in many ways. First of all, we’re looking at a team that has a “space operating system” called SpaceOS. There aren’t many details about the system, but Sightful says it’s designed for the web.

The company also claims that laptop users will be able to use popular services and applications such as Gmail, Google Calendar, ChatGPT, Slack, WhatsApp, Wordincluding, although there is no talk of a store. These can be applications that run directly from a Chromium-based browser.

Services and applications running on SpaceOS

Instead of a screen, there are augmented reality glasses equipped with two OLED panels. They provide a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels per eye and a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz. The diagonal field of view is 50° and 44 PPD (pixels per degree). This also allows for custom lenses to be made.

Inside we have a Snapdragon QCS8550 SoC with a Kryo processor and Adreno 740 GPU, which is what Qualcomm says the chip has to offer. up to 48 TOPS (INT8) for artificial intelligence (AI) tasks – an interesting moment for our time. The RAM is 16GB LPDDR5 and the internal storage is 128GB, although 102GB is available.

We also have a 60 Wh battery, two USB-C ports (10 Gbps), Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.3, 5G (Nano-SIM or eSIM card slot). Spacetop G1 is also prepared for video conferencing, so it is equipped with two speakers (stereo 6 W), a microphone and a 5 MP webcam (2592 x 1944 pixels).

Spacetop G1 Price and Availability

The new Spacetop G1 is only available in the US, at least for now. It’s priced at $1,900, but as of this writing you can get it for $1,700. On the “Attractive” page

It is open for reservations for $100 and will begin shipping in October 2024.
