Spain will lead the production of green hydrogen in Europe and the creation of jobs associated with this activity.

Spain will have at least 100 or 150 hydrogen plants in 2030, for which investments of more than 21 billion euros are expected, as outlined in the Hydrogen Roadmap in Spain. This activity will create more 181,000 green molecule jobs by 2040.

So Spain will also European country that creates the most jobs related to green hydrogen, 11% of the total. The UK will follow with 173,000 posts; Germany – 145,000; and France, 105,000, according to a report presented by Cepsa and Manpower in Davos, according to Servimedia.

Spain has already started expand green hydrogen production, with the launch of Europe’s largest green hydrogen production plant, located in Puertollano (Ciudad Real). In the coming months, it will be complemented by two projects in the Community of Madrid.

One of them will be a hydrogen station that will serve Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT). The second will be the Canal de Isabel II project, which aims to promote Spain’s first green hydrogen production plant produced from reclaimed water.

In the case of EMT, the project is being implemented by Serveo through a temporary joint venture (UTE) with SIEC and Sumelzo. The 42,000 square meter plant is being built in the Entrevias district of Madrid.where the municipal company’s operations center is located.

Investments in the project amounted to approximately 11 million euros co-financed by the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF). The municipal fleet will consist of ten hydrogen buses, which will be powered by this alternative energy in the coming months and will contribute to the milestone of a 100% green fleet by 2025.

Along with the hydrogen plant, photovoltaic installation of more than 2,700 solar panels distributed over three breakwaters with a maximum power of 1.6 MWh.

Isabella II Channel

Also in the Community of Madrid, in this case in the city of Pinto, the Canal Isabella II project was launched with the aim of creating the first green hydrogen plant in Spain produced from reclaimed water.

With an investment of 7.3 million euros, this new hydrogen plant will be located at the Arroyo Culebro Cuenca Media Alta (WWTP) wastewater treatment plant and will have an initial capacity of approximately 80,000 kilograms of hydrogen per year. The treatment plant will be able to produce up to 12 million liters per day of the highest quality reclaimed water.

suitable for use in industrial processes and now for the production of green hydrogen.

First hydrogen station in Aragon

A hydrogen plant will open in Aragon in the coming years. This work is promoted by the Aragonese Renewable Energy Company (CEAR) and Enagás in El Burgo de Ebro (Zaragoza).

The plant will receive investment of 180 million euros, of which 14.3 million comes from European funding. In addition, it will create 40 sustainable direct jobs.

The project includes installation three wind farms and two photovoltaic power plants which will supply renewable energy to the new facility. Its generating capacity will be 60 MW, and the energy produced will be used for four purposes: as a raw material, as a clean fuel, and for storage and discharge into the general power grid.

Enagas promotes 55 specific renewable gas projects throughout Spain (34 green hydrogen projects and 21 biomethane projects) together with more than 60 partners.

Soria

In Garray (Soria), the construction of a plant is being completed that will supply green hydrogen to Castile and León for the first time. It will be operated by H2Duero, a joint venture between Redexis and Somacyl.Servimedia reports this.

This plant was invested with 6 million euros and received funds from Feder. It has a capacity of 2.5 megawatts (MW) and will be able to produce 300 tons of hydrogen per year. manufactured for industrial and mobile use. Thus, 89 tons of carbon dioxide will be prevented from entering the atmosphere.

In addition, this project will provide services to the Garrey Ecological Business Park, almost 3000 square metersand has water storage tanks and auxiliary facilities for control and monitoring, air conditioning, lighting or security.
