Studicanal releases The Outrun in the UK with Saoirse Ronan leading an acclaimed cast

Studiocanal has announced its long-awaited theatrical release in the UK and Ireland. Outran, an adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s critically acclaimed memoir. Directed by Nora Fingscheidt, famous System failureThe film will be released in theaters on the 27th.^th September 2024

Outran The film will feature a stellar cast including four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan, as well as Emmy nominee Paapa Essiedu, BAFTA Award winner Stephen Dillane and Saskia Reeves. The film already received critical acclaim when it debuted at Sundance and the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, setting high hopes for its release.

Adapted for the screen by Fingscheidt in collaboration with Liptrot, the series is a searingly honest drama about addiction, survival and the healing power of nature, set against the backdrop of the wild North Orkney Islands. Ronan portrays the main character, 29-year-old Rona, who, after a decline in London, returns to her home in Orkney. Struggling with sobriety and loneliness, Rhona confronts her past, finding solace and strength in the harsh beauty of her surroundings.

Amy Liptrot’s memoir, on which the film is based, has received widespread acclaim, winning the 2016 Wainwright Award and the 2017 PEN-Ackerley Award. The book, a Sunday Times top ten bestseller, has been translated into 15 languages, sold over 110,000 copies in the UK alone, and has been added to Canongate’s Canons list of modern classics.
