Study finds fat bubbles that promote prostate cancer growth

A study by the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV) and the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona. identified some vesicles divided by adipose tissue (thick) periprostatically proliferating prostate cancerIISPV reported this in a statement.

A study published in the Journal of Translational Medicine found that these vesicles cause modifications in tumor cell genes which promote its proliferation and trigger the inflammatory process, which increases the aggressiveness of prostate cancer.

Researchers have found that molecules responsible for this genetic change in the tumor

These are microRNAs that are located inside these vesicles that are secreted by the fat that surrounds them.

Opening”may open up new possibilities for more effective and personalized treatment.» for those patients who suffer from prostate cancer, a tumor that has the highest incidence among the male population of Spain: more than 30,000 new cases are diagnosed every year.

Researcher Matilda Rodriguez explained that “The fat surrounding various tumors plays a very important role. and this should not be ignored” when developing therapeutic strategies that must take into account the cellular environment in which the tumor lives (tumor microenvironment).

“His role becomes a key factor: this increased aggressiveness of tumors, and not only in prostate cancer

“But in the case of other cancers, such as breast or stomach cancer,” researcher Rodriguez emphasized, focusing on the tumor microenvironment, which includes fat, immune cells, fibroblasts and blood vessels located near the tumor.
