Teruel, protagonist of the Euclid mission that revolutionized astronomy

Investigations just published Euclid space mission and which revolutionized the world of astronomy. Teruel seal and participation Center for Research in Space Physics of Aragon (Cefca) – government Javalambre Observatory– The number of satellites in the work of the European Space Agency (ESA) will increase.

Two scientists who signed one of 10 articles reporting the first results of the mission Carlos Hernandez and Elena Dominguez belong to CEFCA, But in addition, Teruel’s contribution will increase as the mission progresses.

The first images from the telescope and Euclid spacecraft, released last Thursday, caused a stir in the scientific community. A series of images reveals unprecedented views of the Universe, with material reaching almost eleven months after launch

of this space telescope, which is gradually completing what it calls the largest 3D map of space.

The photos show two galaxy clusters, a bright stellar nursery shrouded in interstellar dust, spiral galaxy and group of evolving galaxies and fusion are the protagonists of these five stunning full-color images, which, according to the European Space Agency, go beyond beauty: they reveal new physical properties of the Universe. The results of the use of images are presented in 10 scientific articles, one of them signed by Hernandez and Dominguez.

Cefca Deputy Director Tony Marin However, he notes that the Javalambre main telescope’s participation in the Euclid mission will expand. Marin points out that “to accurately analyze” the data obtained by the space telescope, it must be confirmed by observations from Earth, and it is in this area that Cefca’s collaboration will be crucial.

Tony Marin adds that the work to “support” Euclid requires a telescope with a “large field of view.” quality demonstrated by Javalambre’s main telescope, JST250.. The researcher adds that in addition to this institutional collaboration, various Cefca scientists support Euclid’s work by performing tasks such as processing the collected data.

The closeness between the Euclid mission and Cefca goes even further, since both projects have the same the main objective

mapping the Universe in three dimensions and, based on this work, research and unraveling of nature dark energy, the engine of the cosmos, the essence of which is unknown.
