The Covid-19 vaccine has changed the timing of when it is given at the start of the menstrual cycle.

Together with the study “The Impact of SARS-Covid-19 Isolation on the Menstrual Cycle” (the first to show how home confinement irregular female menstruation), gynecologists from Hospital Santa Creu and Sant Pau (Barcelona) – in collaboration with the Agència de Qualitat i Avaluació Sanitàries de Catalunya (Aquas) and a lunar cycle tracking app – also examined how coronavirus vaccines have affected effect on bleeding. “We have seen that vaccination can lead to changes in the menstrual cycle, but it depended on cycle time when the woman was vaccinated,” the doctor explains Josep Perello.

effects of covid-19 vaccine they were already in the rules previously reported in various studies that have shown that these drugs cause in some women irregular bleeding, heavier than usual or less frequent. A new study conducted by Sant Pau shows, in particular, how the coronavirus vaccine affected depending on the moment in which it was held.

Delays from one to two days

Thus, if a woman was vaccinated at the beginning of her menstrual cycle, “possibility” of change. These incidents mainly involved delay of the deadline by one or two days. However, those who were vaccinated in the second part of the cycle was not so sensitive to changes. Article “Does the phase of the menstrual cycle matter when receiving the Covid-19 vaccine?”, led by a gynecologist from Sant Pau Josep Perello

– in collaboration with the Aquas Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence – and published in “American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology” collected information provided by users in Lunar mobile app to track your cycle and menstruation.

The results of the investigation, which had database of 28,876 users and 162,529 menstrual cycles, show this vaccination during the luteal phase (the second part of the cycle, in which ovulation and which extends from the 14th to the 28th) has “protective effect” on the side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine and the induction of menstrual irregularities compared with vaccination during follicular phase (preovulatory, i.e. between the first day of menstruation and ovulation). The results obtained allow us to take into account the phase of the menstrual cycle of women of reproductive age for Designing the Future of Vaccination Policy

against covid-19 or other infections.

Although the stress caused by quarantine and also vaccine (depending on what period of the woman’s cycle it was administered) did have an effect on menstrual cycles, it has not been possible to demonstrate, as these gynecologists explain, that the drug itself viral infection will entail changes in the rules.
