The end of physical games? Report indicates that sales fall and the majority buys in digital | Present

In recent years, the industry of video game has been marked by a clear trend: digital games are disappearing to those that are sold in physical format. The titles marketed digitally in 2022 show a very consolidated category. In fact, a recent report reflects strong percentages on the behavior of the market, which would mean the decline of products that stand out for their historical presence on consoles.
The report prepared by GamesIndustry details which have been the best-selling games, the largest markets, global revenue and more aspects. Among the data released for 2022, it can be seen that, of the sales of PC games, 94.2% were made in digital format and 5.8% in physical format. For its part, on consoles, the proportion was 72% for online purchases and 28% for physical ones.

The figures correspond to the total sales of video games worldwide and on all platforms. In this way, it is concluded that the majority of games sold in the year were digital. It is a very logical trend if you consider that 90% of console titles in 2021 were not released in physical format.
Lastly, these figures are complemented by the total revenue that each format has contributed to the industry: digital sales entered 172.8 billion dollars, while physical sales recorded 10.7 billion dollars in revenue.
Without a doubt, it is a revealing index for the gaming industry, which could spell the beginning of the end for physical games in the coming years.
