The expert recommends visiting a urologist if symptoms such as pain when urinating or blood in the urine appear.

However, a specialist in male sexual health, director of services at the Olympia Medical-Surgical Center and the Ruber Juan Bravo Hospital Complex, pointed out that symptoms such as pain when urinating, changes in urination or the presence of blood in the urine require immediate attention, regardless of age .

“A man should immediately consult a urologist if he experiences symptoms such as hematuria, pain when urinating, changes in urine flow, persistent pain in the pelvis or lower back, problems with erection or ejaculation, masses or swelling in the scrotum, fever accompanied by urination . symptoms or urinary incontinence,” the expert said.

These symptoms include hematuria: the presence of blood in the urine, which can indicate infections, kidney stones or, more seriously, cancer.

The expert also recommends seeing a doctor if you experience pain when urinating, as this could be a sign of a urinary tract infection or more complex conditions such as kidney stones or sexually transmitted diseases.

Changes in urination are also a reason to contact a professional. Particularly when you have difficulty starting to urinate, have a weak or intermittent stream, or feel like your bladder isn’t emptying completely.

Another symptom is related to pain in the pelvis or lower back, as persistent pain in these areas may be a sign of problems with the kidneys or other organs of the urological system.

You should also see your doctor if you have difficulty getting an erection or ejaculation, which is a persistent or painful problem related to sexual function.

A mass or swelling in the scrotum can also be a sign of conditions such as hydrocele, varicocele or testicular tumor. Additionally, fever or chills accompanied by urinary symptoms may indicate a kidney infection or other serious infection.

Finally, the expert notes that urinary incontinence may be a reason to consult a doctor, since involuntary urination can be a sign of a number of urological diseases.

“It is important to remember that these symptoms do not always indicate a serious condition, but they definitely require professional evaluation to determine the cause and appropriate treatment,” the doctor said.

Dr. Peinado assures that in urology practice, “the most common consultations tend to vary depending on demographics and other factors.” In this sense, the first reason for seeking a consultation is related to prostate problems, which may include benign growth of the prostate known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or problems associated with prostate cancer.

In addition, patients often come to the office for problems related to erectile dysfunction, as many men seek help for erection problems that may be related to physical or psychological factors.

Likewise, the most common consultations are for urinary tract infections (UTIs); stones in the kidneys; urinary incontinence; cases of hematuria and male infertility.
