The Pfizer Foundation has launched the eighth edition of the e-Dea Salud Challenge, in collaboration with the Galician Public Foundation for Biomedical Research Galicia Sur (Fpgibgs) and the Galician Public Foundation for Biomedical Research Inibic (Finibic). This year’s challenge focuses on finding technological solutions that will improve adherence to treatment, management and care for patients who regularly require dialysis.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) It affects approximately 10% of the adult population of Spain. according to the Epirce study, which also highlights the significant underdiagnosis of this condition. In patients with other common chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure (HBP) or diabetes mellitus (DM), the prevalence of CKD can reach 35-40%. Thus, many of these patients will eventually require dialysis. a process that can require several hospital visits a week, which poses a serious challenge to your quality of life.
To address these issues, the e-Dea Salud Challenge seeks innovative offerings that empower patients and increase their motivation, improve their adherence and commitment to treatment, promote healthy lifestyles and ultimately improve their quality of life.
The collaboration between the Pfizer Foundation and the Galician public foundations that form part of the Junta de Galicia Provincial Health Department has played a key role in the development of this initiative. An evaluation committee consisting of representatives from the Pfizer Foundation, Fpgibgs and Inibic will select three finalist projects. Selection criteria will include innovation, viability, growth potential, improvement in health outcomes, impact on healthcare workers and potential savings in the medium to long term.
After that, The finalists will take part in an immersion programme at a public hospital in Galicia. to gain a better understanding of the needs of patients and the healthcare system, allowing them to adjust their offerings within a week. Finally, the winning project will receive a financial award of 2,500 euros and the opportunity to participate in the scholarship selection process
