G-Shock has become one of Casio’s most famous watch lines. Products bearing this mark have evolved over the years and have become more complete and stable. But not all people want to wear the brand’s latest watches. Some stick to classic models.
41 years after Casio released the original G-Shock (DW-5000C), the Japanese company has decided to bring to market watches that, aside from subtle differences, are visually identical. We’re talking about the G-Shock G-Shock DW-5000R, an offering that pays tribute to this iconic model from April 1983.
When Casio introduced the G-Shock line in the 1980s, the company had a pretty clear idea of what it wanted: durable watches. it wouldn’t break even if dropped. At that time, watches were very fragile, somewhat like modern smartphones. A fall could mean breaking the glass.
There is no doubt that Casio has fulfilled its mission by designing a watch with a stainless steel case complemented by a synthetic bezel and strap. The model introduced this week retains its essence, but with minor changes: it now uses a biological resident and LED backlighting with improved brightness.
On the cover we see the original clock on the left and the updated one on the right. It seems that Casio has put a lot of effort into creating a product that is as close to the original as possible, down to the smallest visual detail. The screen design stands out for its brick style pattern
reproduce information.
In addition to displaying the time, the watch has a 1/100 second stopwatch function, countdown, alarm and LED backlight. The back has a metal cover labeled “Shock Resistant”. The case size is 48.9 x 42.3 x 13.1 mm and weighs only 76 grams. Its price in Japan is 33,000 yen (about 206 euros).
