New teams Co-pilot+ PC have opened up a new way to interact with generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, improving experience and productivity at the work level, but at the moment they are not as responsive to the most creative tasks.
The company introduced these computers last May when it determined that the technology would allow users to get the most out of their hardware—the new Surface computers, i.e. Surface Laptop and Surface Pro.
Surface laptop It comes in two sizes: 13.8-inch and 15-inch, both powered by a 12-core Snapdragon X Elite chip (the smaller model also has a 13-core Snapdragon X Plus version).
The screens of all of them are equipped with PixelSense Flow technology and Corning Gorilla Glass. They also offer 2496 x 1664 resolution (201 dpi), sRGB, and a Vivid color profile with adaptive colors and contrast; and dynamic refresh rate up to 120Hz.
Battery life is also similar, although it varies by screen size: the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop offers up to 20 hours of local video playback and up to 15 hours of active Internet use. In turn, the largest model increases battery life to 22 hours when playing video.
On the other hand, the Surface Pro differs depending on the screen type, which in both cases is 13 inches. The LCD model is powered by a 10-core Snapdragon X Plus processor, while the OLED model is powered by a 12-core Snapdragon X Elite chip.
The rest of the features are the same, like 10-point multi-touch, 120Hz refresh rate, 2880 x 1920 resolution (267 ppi), Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and custom color calibration display.
They also have the same battery capacity: up to 14 hours of local video playback and up to 10 hours of active Internet use. Microsoft noted that these NPUs are optimized to crunch numbers twice as fast as other Windows laptops, and that they also use less power, so the battery It can last up to a day without completely drying out.
So, designed for all types of consumers—from creative professionals and designers to new technology enthusiasts—Copilot+ PCs include a range of features designed to make everyday tasks easier.
One of them is Recall or Memories, which will soon be available with an OS update – after several checks carried out by the Microsoft team – which brings together everything that was done on the PC when the user described what he was looking for in the hardware.
The Cocreator tool is now available on the new Copilot+ PCs and is perhaps one of the most exciting in the family of new AI-powered features. In particular, this is integrated into Paint, a program in which you can draw. a sketch of what is planned to be created using this technology.
Once the drawing is created and a short description of what you want to create is entered, you can choose a specific style (illustration, animation, watercolor, etc.) and increase the intensity of your creativity.
In our tests, we drew a dog, a cat and a bird with the goal of Cocreator to show a stylized image of these animals dancing in the snow, but the result did not convince us, since the dog had two tails, and the cat “grew” a leg where it shouldn’t be must.
The co-pilot was also not very accurate. during a cooking demonstration when he was ordered to create a recipe with just a few ingredients, including potatoes and a bunch of asparagus. This is a photo of them using the Surface Camera.
The co-pilot then came up with different preparation options (cooked, grilled) as well as different presentation forms (sliced or whole) with different illustrations, although he confused potatoes with yellow peppers. We initially found that he responded better to imperative commands—such as “diagram” how something works—and to writing a story with a princess and a horse, which quickly adapts the narrative when introducing a new character.
However, Copilot didn’t really adapt to the type of questions we asked when we asked it to give us tricks on how to seduce a neighbor who had a partner. In fact, he suggested abandoning that goal and thinking about what it might mean for the relationship.
