The Pixel 9 family will get a screenshot feature similar to Microsoft’s Recall – Technology.

MADRID, 3 (Portaltic/EP)

Google’s next family of mobile phones, the Pixel 9, will introduce new features powered by artificial intelligence (AI), including a feature similar to Recall, the screenshot tool developed by Microsoft.

A few days ago, the manufacturer announced that it will launch the next series of smartphones on August 13, and the event will also feature new AI-based features and others related to the Android operating system.

Google plans to introduce a set of new machine learning-powered features called Google AI on these devices, which include functionality similar to Microsoft’s Recall, as Android Authority has now noted.

“Reminiscence” is an option that works like a photographic memory, allowing users to search through everything they’ve seen or done on their computer through a timeline that applies to any app, document, or website.

This is possible because Recall uses an index that is stored locally on the device being used, which is why it has caused controversy as experts say it could compromise user privacy. For this reason, Microsoft has delayed the official launch of Copilot+ for PC devices.

Google would use this feature as a benchmark to implement a similar feature in its next smartphones using Google AI, as well as options like Circle to Search or Gemini. Specifically, it plans to call it Pixel Screenshots.

This feature has a different format than Recall. Instead of automatically capturing everything that is recorded on the screen, Google’s option will only work with screenshots taken by users themselves.

Once they do, Pixel Screenshots will add additional metadata, like app names or web links, and all of that information will be processed by local AI, which could be the new multimodal version of Gemini Nano. With it, you can search for specific screenshots based on their content.

The publication also spotted three new AI-powered features in the upcoming Pixel 9, such as Add Me, a photo editing tool that can change users’ facial expressions.

Studio is another new feature coming to these smartphones, previously known as Creative Assistant, which will be integrated into the Pixel’s screenshot editing app.
