There are people who feel meteorological changes in their bones and joints more, this is meteosensitivity.

Have you ever noticed that your joints and bones hurt a lot, and suddenly it started to rain? Have you ever thought that there might be a strong connection between this type of pain and weather changes?

Called weather sensitivity,

also known as weather sensitivity, it is a phenomenon in which some people experience health changes in response to weather conditions. It is not a medical condition in itself, but rather an individual response to meteorological factors such as changes in temperature, barometric pressure or changes in humidity, which manifest as mood changes, joint pain or migraines, respectively.

Physical and mental symptoms

Weather sensitivity can manifest itself as physical and mental symptoms. In the physical world a person may encounter:

  1. Joint pain: Joint pain increases, especially affecting people with pathologies such as arthritis.
  2. Headaches and migraines: Changes in temperature and barometric pressure reflect headaches and migraines in sensitive people.
  3. Fatigue: Exposure to extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, can contribute to fatigue.

As for the mental sphere, the following can happen:

  • Mood changes: Some people experience mood changes, such as irritability or melancholy, in response to certain weather conditions.
  • Difficulty concentrating: Weather sensitivity also affects concentration and cognitive function.
  • Sleep disorders: Adverse weather conditions also affect the quality of sleep, leading to insomnia or sleep disturbances.

Although meteorological sensitivity This is a reality that many people experience, scientific evidence is still in the process of being discovered. Thus, climate change may affect nervous system, blood flow and release of certain chemicals in the body, thereby contributing to the symptoms experienced by people who are sensitive to weather.

Keeping a symptom diary can help you identify patterns and understand how the weather affects each person, thereby minimizing negative impacts.

What causes weather sensitivity?

Although there is still no clear explanation for what causes this, there are factors that could explain the relationship between climate and the health of these people.

  1. Changes in atmospheric pressure: Fluctuations in atmospheric pressure are considered one of the main triggers of meteosensitivity. What happens is that these changes affect the fluid balance in the inner ear, which may explain the headaches and ear discomfort that some people experience.

  2. Effect on the nervous system: Climate can also have effects on the nervous system, such as the release of neurotransmitters in the brain, which can affect mood and pain perception.

  3. Inflammatory reaction: For people with inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, weather sensitivity may be due to the body’s inflammatory response to changes in temperature and humidity, exacerbating symptoms and discomfort.

  4. Environmental Stimuli: Changes in temperature and humidity are also noticeable on air quality and allergen concentrations, so they especially affect those with breathing problems.

  5. Genetics and individual factors: Each person’s genetic predisposition and general health have an important bearing on weather sensitivity, as they are more susceptible to these changes.
