These are new illnesses associated with the Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines.

According to the Ministry of Health, by June 2023, 40 million people were vaccinated according to the full schedule. An achievement that not only protected vaccinated people, but also helped reduce infections and deaths from Covid.

Although the pandemic is behind us, experts continue to research and reveal important information about the safety of vaccines. Among them are professionals Global Vaccine Data Network (GVDN), which identified seven new illnesses or side effects related to covid vaccines.

COVID-19 vaccinations

What new diseases?

According to the study, there are seven diseases associated with the selected vaccines:

  • Pfizer/BioNTek: facial nerve paralysis, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, myocarditis.
  • Modern: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, pulmonary embolism, myocarditis, pericarditis.
  • AstraZeneca: Guillain-BarrĂ© syndrome, thrombosis of the cerebral venous sinuses, myocarditis.

The researchers emphasize that although these side effects are rare, The benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks. However, it is important that people are informed about possible side effects and seek medical help if they experience them.

Other side effects

Last December Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) published its 19th pharmacovigilance report, which identified two new adverse reactions associated with the Pfizer and Astrazeneca vaccines: dizziness and cutaneous vasculitis.

Dizziness has been particularly associated with the Pfizer (Comirnaty) vaccine, although is rare and usually appears within 24 hours after vaccination.

Another notable effect was cutaneous vasculitis associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. This disorder includes inflammation of skin blood vessels, usually appears as flat, round, red or purple rashes or spots appearing under the surface of the skin, also known as bruises.

The Ministry of Health indicated that after assessing reported cases of adverse events following vaccination, the PRAC (Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee) considered it likely that cutaneous vasculitis was associated with AstraZeneca administration.

Most common side effects associated with vaccines

The most commonly reported disorders remain general disorders, such as fever or pain at the injection site, followed by disorders of the nervous system (mainly headaches and dizziness) and the musculoskeletal system (mainly myalgia and arthralgia).

  • Heat
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Pain at the injection site

How to distinguish covid symptoms from flu or cold

Although Covid-19, the flu and the common cold have similar symptoms, there are key differences that can help differentiate them. It is important to know what disease you are suffering from so that you can prescribe the most effective treatment.

The most effective way to differentiate them is using special tests to detect diseases. Both Covid-19 and influenza can present with symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, sore throat, muscle pain, headache, diarrhea and difficulty breathing. Therefore, it is wise to take a PCR test to determine which disease you are suffering from.

The main difference is the virus responsible for each disease. While Covid-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2, influenza is caused by the influenza virus.

To distinguish a cold from Covid-19, it is necessary to observe the symptoms that occur. For example, Sneezing, congestion and runny nose are signs of a cold that are not usually associated with Covid-19.

loss of smell and/or taste This is another useful tip. This consequence of Covid-19 is not related to colds or flu.
