Recently, science and technology have gone hand in hand to help medicine. develop in identifying pathologies and diseases, especially those related to the heart. In fact, a few years ago the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) managed to develop an AI that can detect heart attacks with 95% efficiency, and late last year a group of doctors managed to successfully implant a pig heart into a human.
Well, now some scientists have gone even further as they have managed to invent a revolutionary heart attack detector that can reduce the time to predict a heart attack from hours to minutes.
Johns Hopkins University researchers Peng Zheng, Lintong Wu, Piyush Raj, Chung Hee Kim, Santosh Kumar Paidi, Steve Semanchik, Ishan Barman published a study in the journal Advanced Science explaining what they were able to design a small chip that can predict a heart attack in just a few minutes.
Peng Zheng, a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University and lead author of the study. He spoke about his discovery as follows:
“Heart attacks require immediate medical intervention to improve patient outcomes, but while early diagnosis is critical, it can also be very difficult – and almost impossible outside of a clinical setting. We were able to invent new technology that can quickly and accurately determine if someone is having a heart attack.
This revolutionary chip has a unique surface that can accurately detect heart attack biomarkers in the blood, even if they are present in small proportionsand does it twice as fast as current technology.
The innovative surface of this chip has several layers: the first of which is a unique layer polystyrene beads arranged in a hexagonal pattern on a quartz substrate. and on top of this several thin alternating layers of gold and silica, which They fill the space between the beads before the beads are removed, leaving behind piles of gold and silica meta-atoms. similar to nanometer-sized pyramids.
The key to this revolutionary surface is that the combination of metallic (gold) and dielectric (silica) materials improves the chip’s electric and magnetic fields. increasing the power of Raman spectroscopya method of analysis that provides detailed information about a substance using light that interacts with its chemical bonds analyze patients’ blood.
Ishan Barman, another of the authors of this study, stated that his invention “huge commercial potential” And? “there is nothing that limits this technology platform”because this chip can also be used for detect cancer or other types of infectious diseases.
