Three types of meat that experts ask you to remove from your diet

Environmental impact current meat consumption This should be the main reason to start reducing the amount of these foods we consume per week, if not eliminating them altogether. However, the carbon footprint of meat is not the only reason we have to say goodbye to our daily servings: Experts warn about the health risks of unlimited and excessive consumption of these types of meat.

In our gastronomy this food is an undeniable pillar: recent study by the Autonomous University of Madrid has illuminated some aspects that have hitherto remained unclear regarding its consumption in relation to health. On the one hand, it has historically been valued for its protein and other essential nutrients.

Regarding the results of this study, published in the journal BMC Medicine.High consumption of processed meats such as bacon, salami or sausages is correlated with poorer physical function.

According to researcher Ellen Strake, “The beneficial effects of quality meat proteins disappear if the meat is processed.” According to the World Health Organization, processed meat is “any type of meat that has been transformed by curing, curing, fermentation, smoking or other processes that help improve the flavor and preservation of food.”

For her part, the teacher Esther Lopez Garcia, Professor of the Department of Preventive Medicine at UAM advocated the importance of a balanced diet including a variety of protein sources: sin, legumes, nuts and unprocessed meats.

Although meat forms an important part of our diet

, experts recommend moderating and controlling its consumption. In particular, take extreme precautions with three types of meat:

red meat

In terms of processed meats, red meat was also associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and even some types of meat, despite the fact that they are an important source of protein and other nutrients. In any case, experts suggest limiting its consumption and replacing it with healthier, leaner options.
