In this edition, the Best in Class 2024 (BiC) award for the best hospital in infection control was awarded to the Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital in Madrid. This center is characterized by a constant commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in the field of infection prevention, focusing on quality of care and adherence to preventive functions.
Maria Dolores Martin Rios, Head of the Preventive Medicine Service of the Jiménez Díaz FoundationTogether with a member of her service, she received the award from Almudena Quintana, Director General of the Madrid Health Service, and Nacho Díaz Presa from Solventum. The head of the awarded service emphasized to Gaceta Médica the “great joy and satisfaction” with which they receive this award. “This is a valuable recognition that highlights the daily efforts of our dedicated team and reaffirms our commitment to innovation and continuous improvement,” Martin said. “We feel motivated and grateful that the team’s efforts, dedication and enthusiasm are valued and are an incentive for continued improvement,” he said.
The team is distinguished by its ability to work in collaboration with various disciplines and services involved in infection prevention and control such as preventive medicine, microbiology and infectious diseases. All this is supported by advanced technologies such as Argos, a real-time surveillance platform. “With this technology, we are reducing detection time and optimizing resources, allowing us to focus on higher-value activities such as training and awareness of health care personnel in infection prevention and control,” says the service manager.
The preventive medicine service consists of two main areas: department of immunization and department of prevention and control of hospital infections. The team specializing in infection prevention and control includes four preventive doctors, three nurses and a paramedic. “Our mission is to reduce the incidence of infections in the hospital environment by training frontline professionals in best practices to prevent them,” Martin emphasizes.
One of the areas of work of this center is implementation of ARGOSplatform that automates and centralizes surveillance of healthcare associated infections (HAIs). “Using advanced technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and dedicated mobile applications, ARGOS enables real-time monitoring, improving the early detection of infections and allowing rapid action to be taken against possible risks,” explains the service manager.
This optimizes resources, reduces time spent on administrative tasks, and allows the team to focus on activities that have direct value to patients, such as health education and preventative education.
According to Martin, “ARGOS increased surgical surveillance by 62.2% in 2023, which meant a total of 4,000 additional patients under real-time surveillance.” In addition, it informs all hospital staff of surveillance results, improving efficiency and communication in infection prevention and control programs.
This confession had Solvent supportwho assured that healthcare workers are the first line of defense in infection prevention, committed to the health and well-being of patients through strict protocols and effective quality standards.
“Solventum’s commitment to excellence in healthcare is reflected in its ongoing support of healthcare professionals, promotion of innovative strategies and training in infection prevention,” the company emphasizes. “The Best Hospital in Infection Prevention award recognizes the efforts and dedication of professionals who work tirelessly to protect patients and reduce risks in healthcare,” they conclude.
