The Turkish Parliament has this Tuesday given the ‘green light’ to the protocol of Sweden joining NATO. The way was thus paved for the Scandinavian country to become a member of the defensive alliance and the final decision on its entry was left to Hungary, which has not yet ratified it.

Turkish officials have indicated on several occasions the presence Sweden’s stance on pro-Kurdish movements, particularly with regard to any support for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)Which Ankara considers a terrorist organization.
Additionally, over the past few months there have been several incidents on Swedish territory involving the burning of copies of Islam’s holy book, the Quran, as well as against President Erdogan himself.
