Two Premier League players arrested on suspicion of rape

Two Premier League footballers, both 19 years old and belonging to the same club, were arrested on suspicion of rape and released on bail after being questioned by police, British media reported.

“A 19-year-old man was arrested for assault and accessory to rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape, a police spokesman said.

Wolverhampton Wanderers, following online rumors that they are members of their club, have distanced themselves from this information and confirmed that the allegations do not apply to them.

“The newspaper published information that caused inappropriate speculation on the Internet about the identity of two people under police investigation. “Whilst we do not normally comment on police matters, in order to protect the welfare of our players, we feel it is necessary to confirm that the allegations do not relate to anyone at Wolves,” the club said in a statement.

During these types of investigations, the names of the players are not released until the prosecution files formal charges.
