A Spaniard among the debate hosts
The debate is held on the CNN campus, but the spin room, where the guests are, and the huge press room with a thousand journalists from around the world, are set up at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Tech, whose rector is the Spanish Angel Cabrera. Between welcoming guests and monitoring the situation, he has found time to make a statement to EL PAIS: “The arrangements to hold a presidential debate at our university are enormous. We have to coordinate several security services, the secret of the presidents, the campus police, the state police, the city police… The whole operation is complicated, but it is worthwhile to bring the attention of the world to Georgia Tech, to our university, there are not many students there, but for those who are on campus, it is the most important political event in several months and it is an honor to have it on our campus,” he explains. He explains that it is a joint effort with CNN. “We are neighbors with CNN and we’ve always had a very good relationship with them. It took weeks of planning and preparation, but the execution happened in the last week. I’m very proud of my team, we have very, very good people, and it’s also great to have neighbors like CNN,” he added.
